The Big Beat

The Big Beat

Drums of passion, drums of anger,

drums of sorrow, drums of joy –

thwok, pound, rattle, boom,

ignites my burning heart.

Slap, bam, snap, thud,

sets my spirit free.

My primal soul is free,

free to laugh, free to cry,

free to dance, free to love,

free to be – at one with all.

Drums teach. Drums heal.

Drums resonate truth.

Rumble, rumble,

the rhythm of life,

smack, crash, bang,

the pulse of the world,

O’ blessed be the big beat,

the big beat – the big beat!

  1. This reminds me of the drums playing at night when I lived in Malawi. I love drumming. I like the shape of your poem, like a drum

  2. Juliet –

    Glad you enjoyed this… 😉

  3. Great repetition at the end! And your sounds are so creative!

  4. Linda –

    Thank you… 😉

I felt the repetition reinforced the percussive spirit of the piece.
